Fitness, Fun, Competition

Columbus' Splash swim team serves its members on many different levels.  Some come to improve their overall fitness, while others enjoy the discipline of preparing themselves for an especially challenging swim meet.  Equally appealing is the camaraderie of fellow swimmers at our various social events (in the pool and out!) which adds value to the experience of swimming and working hard.  Whatever your motivation, Splash has what you are looking for in a swim club.

Group Fitness

You can get additional benefits from swimming with Splash.  We offer well planned workouts, encouragement, and activities beyond the practice pool.  Group fitness is a great way to take a break from your daily routine and hang out with friends.

Coached Practices

Splash's practices are coordinated by coaches who provide well-planned workouts.  If you're looking for feedback, coaches will give you tips for improvement and useful insights into your strengths and weaknesses.  On the lighter side, our coaches occasionally throw in fun sets.

Group Swimming

Meeting up with friends several times a week for fitness and fun is a great way to stay motivated.  With Splash, our practice coordinator may be one of the first people you meet.  She will help you get familiar with the pool, introduce you to the team, and help you find a lane with swimmers of similar ability.  Once you get to know your lane mates, they'll provide encouragement.

Members of our team are men and women ranging in age from their 20's through 60's with varied levels of swimming experience.  You'll fit right in if you're looking to improve your fitness.

Beyond Practice

Splash frequently coordinates social activities outside of regular practices, including after-practice dinners, social events, swim meets, and volunteering for other non-profit organizations.

Even if competition isn't your first priority, swim meets offer an opportunity to visit different places and bond with your teammates.  Here are just a few of the places and cities that Splash members have attended meets:

Personal Fitness

Each week, Splash holds three coached practices that run from an hour to an hour and a half in the 2,000 to 4,000 yard range.  Our coaches make the best use of pool time by varying the strokes, distances, and intensity of each set by lane.  Individuals can tailor workouts to fit their own skill level and goals.

Technique

Practices focus on improving stroke technique, endurance, and strength.  Technique development comes through drills to help you achieve the correct body position, develop a good 'catch' and pull, and put power in your kick.  Further refinement comes through individual coaching, stroke clinics, and learning new techniques.

Strength

With good technique, you can focus on endurance and strength training.  Emphasis is placed on building fitness in each of the four key strokes:  freestyle, backstroke, breastroke, and butterfly.  Continuous change in the workout routine provides variety that keeps practices interesting and challenging.

Competition

Our swimmers set their own goals, and many choose competition for the challenges it offers and the motivation that it provides.  If you like swim meets, your goal may be to set a new personal best time in a particular event.  Alternatively, a long distance swimmer may aim to swim a number of miles over the course of a year.  Whatever goal you choose, the outcome should be meaningful to you.

Challenges

Splash is affiliated with U.S. Masters Swimming (USMS).  With over 50,000 swimmers nationwide, USMS extends the benefits of swimming with Splash through fitness and competition programs.  Read more about the US Masters Swimming at their web site.

To challenge our members, Splash attends a number of meets and swimming events each year, many of which are made available through USMS.  For example:

While many of the meets that Splash attend are in Ohio or nearby, such as the Fall and Spring Redfin Masters meets.  Splash also travels nationally and internationally.  Here are just a few of the places and cities that Splash members have attended meets:
